  • What's the difference between the Ohio BWC and an MCO?
  • BWC (Bureau of Workers' Compensation) is the State of Ohio government agency responsible for Ohio’s workers’ compensation system. AultComp MCO (Managed Care Organization) is a private company selected by or assigned to your employer to medically manage the employer’s workers’ compensation claims. BWC makes decisions regarding claim allowances and issues benefit payments. AultComp MCO coordinates medical care and makes treatment decisions.

  • What is AultComp MCO’s role in my workers compensation claim?
  • AultComp MCO manages the medical portion (excluding pharmacy) of your workers compensation claim. AultComp MCO will work with you, your employer and your physician to return you to work quickly yet safely.

  • How do I report a work related injury?
    1. Report the injury immediately to your supervisor or employer.
    2. Seek immediate attention and present your AultComp MCO ID card to the doctor or emergency room (obtain from your supervisor or employer) or tell your doctor or emergency room the name of your managed care organization (AultComp MCO) at the time of service.
    3. Ask your doctor or emergency room to file the First Report of Injury with AultComp MCO. Your doctor is required to file the claim with your MCO within 24 hours.
    4. Contact your employer to see if your company requires you to fill out an internal accident report.
    5. Contact AultComp MCO within 24 hours of the injury to verify the FROI has been received.

  • Where do I obtain a First Report of Injury Form?
  • The First Report of Injury form is available from your employer, your physician, AultComp MCO or Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) website.

  • Who can file a claim with BWC?
  • Injured workers, employers, authorized representatives and designees can file claims with BWC. MCOs and medical providers can also file claims.

  • How do I get reimbursed for prescriptions I paid for?
  • Please Note: AultComp MCO does not process or handle pharmacy bills and/or issues. Pharmacy benefits are handled by SXC Health Solutions, a separate pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), please direct any pharmacy questions to SXC Health Solutions at 1-800-OHIO-BWC and follow the prompts. Payment of Prescriptions - if your doctor prescribes medicine for your work-related injury, inform your pharmacist that the prescription is for a workers' compensation claim. If your claim is allowed by the BWC, you will receive your prescriptions for your work-related injury at no up-front cost to you. Note: If your pharmacist fills your prescription before your claim is allowed by BWC, you may have to pay for it at the pharmacy. If the pharmacist sends the bill information to the BWC PBM (pharmacy benefits manager) when dispensing your prescription you do not need to do anything. You will be reimbursed once your claim is allowed. If you paid for your prescription as a "cash customer" and the bill information was not sent to the BWC PBM, then you would need to have your pharmacist complete BWC Form C-17, Outpatient Medication Invoice. When your claim is allowed, you will be reimbursed according to BWC's approved fee schedule.

  • Can I go to any doctor I want?
  • The rules governing the HPP program provide that an injured worker has the right to be treated by the doctor of their choice as long as the doctor is a BWC certified provider.

  • What if I can't find a BWC certified doctor in my area?
  • Ask your physician’s office if they are BWC certified or you may reference www.ohiobwc.com for a complete listing of BWC certified physicians. You may also contact AultComp MCO for assistance in finding a physician.

  • Has the request for treatment been received from my doctor?
  • Contact AultComp MCO to obtain this information. Requests for treatment are forwarded to AultComp MCO for consideration.

  • Has the request for treatment been approved?
  • Contact AultComp MCO to obtain this information. AultComp MCO reviews all medical treatment requests and issues approval or denial.

  • How do my medical bills get paid?
  • Once the claim is allowed the providers (other than pharmacies) who have treated you for the work-related injury should submit their bills to AultComp MCO. AultComp MCO reviews and prices the bills and forwards them electronically to BWC. BWC pays AultComp MCO who in turn disburses payment to the providers.

  • What should I do if I receive a bill?
  • Contact the provider who sent you the bill and advise that the treatment was for a work-related injury. Supply the provider with your worker compensation claim number and give the provider the name and billing address for AultComp MCO, Inc. (100 Lincoln Way E, PO Box 4817, Massillon, OH 44648) and request that a bill be sent to us.

  • Who pays my lost wages?
  • The BWC determines eligibility and payment of compensation benefits. BWC will pay you compensation for lost-time wages if you are off work for 8 days or longer due to your allowed injury or occupational disease. If you miss 14 consecutive days or more due to your allowed injury or illness, you will be compensated for the entire period of time you are disabled as a result of the allowed injury/occupational disease. The first 7 days of disability are not compensable unless you miss 14 consecutive days. Compensation for lost wages can be paid after medical evidence is submitted which supports your disability and BWC issues an order approving payment. Please contact the BWC with questions regarding wage loss.
